Kris Suard

Owner, Creator and
General Manager of Black Star Ranch

Kris, along with her husband Neil, own and operate together as a team Baby Oil, Inc., Suard Barge Service, Suard Workover, Inc., Black Knight Construction, Environmental Equipment, Inc., and Texas Injection LLC.  Kris and Neil are also co-owners of Copelands of Houma and Lafayette.

Kris has a Bachelors Degree in Business Management and over 20 years business experience in administration, management, marketing and accounting.

As a child, she had childhood dreams of being a cowgirl; however, she lived in a small town with practically no horse culture so she tabled that dream, only for a while. Then after raising her children into high school and college, she decided it was time to turn a childhood fantasy into a grown woman's delight, hence the beginnings of Black Star Ranch.

Blackstar ---- Kris's favorite color is "black" and the first horse she ever rode as a child was named "Star".

Kris started riding at the age of 37 and has spent an extensive amount of time training with various professional instructors.  Her goal always being to get her skill and riding to a point where she could barrel race on a competitive level.  After clocking nearly 1000 hours in the saddle, she is finally getting competitive and more confident with her riding.  Lesson to learn...anyone can learn to ride at any age with the right amount of determination.

Kris has several professional mentors in the barrel racing industry and is forever grateful for their endless support of her and team Black Star.

Nica Orgeron

Nica currently holds a Bachelor's Degree in Dietetics and has been working for the Suards for six years.  She started riding horses when she was 24 years-old and has been enjoying it ever since.  When people approach her, the most common question asked is "How did you get started with horses?"  Nica's response is, "I was in the right place at the right time."  Never did she dream of such a hobby, but is very grateful for it.  It has taught her that no matter your age, young or old, if you have ambition and courage and put your mind to it, then it's never too late.  Now that she is on Team Black Star, she is whipping and riding and trying to bring home the money!

At the ranch, Nica is in charge of networking five businesses under one roof, as well as, assisting Ms. Kris with all her daily business matters.  She is also responsible for keeping the staff members in line, and anyone who manages a large amount of people knows, that's no easy task.  Wherever you find Ms. Kris, you will normally find Nica.

Danielle Voisin

Barn Manager/Breeding Program Manager/
Riding Instructor

Danielle Voisin has been in the south Louisiana horse industry since the age of 12. She has competed on the road with Team Black Star. Danielle has been trained by some of the top riding instructors in the country. She is qualified to teach western pleasure and barrel racing. She can teach any levels of riding for both children and adults. "Dee" has attended Nichols University majoring in Business Agriculture.

Danielle is responsible for the health and performance program for all Team Black Star's competition barrel horses. She oversees Black Star's breeding program and has attended Colorado's breeding school to learn how to handle stallions, broodmare care and the birthing of foals. She is hands-on with all the horses and there isn't a day that she isn't in touch with each and every horse!
